Our ‘Bringing it Home’ Christmas show is now online. Considering we’ve had such a short run to the holiday season, launching only a few short months ago, we’re delighted to be able to showcase such a great quality art collection. There really is something in there to suit all budgets and perhaps most personalities too.
Talking about personalities, I was reading a little about Francis Bacon this week. Admittedly I’m not a fan of his work – there’s too much pain and self-loathing for me. But considering the recent sale of his Freud triptych for over $140m there are many out there who would disagree.
Here are some great quotes from the man himself:
I would like my picture to look as if a human being had passed between them, like a snail leaving its trail of the human presence… as a snail leaves its slime.
Painting is the pattern of one’s own nervous system being projected on canvas.
Some artists leave a remarkable thing which, a hundred years later, don’t work at all. I have left my mark; my work is hung in museums, but maybe one day the Tate Gallery or the other museums will banish me to the cellar… you never know.
