About the Artist
Dominic Moriarty is a Fine Arts photographer originally from Dublin but now based in County Offaly, Ireland.
He has always nurtured a keen interest in photography, from 35mm film right through to current digital mediums. “My photography seeks to capture the ‘precious little things’ that so often get overlooked as we journey through life. The gems hidden in the cracks just waiting to be discovered. We look with our eyes, but we ‘see’ with our souls. Everything is connected. His work seeks to tease out the invisible strings that form these connections.” On a high level of technical virtuosity DM creates landscapes for the mind and soul to explore – this can be in the shape of a still life, arrangements of objets trouvés, small nature scenes or landscapes. His imagery is highly personal, yet easily accessible on a wide variety of levels. There are two people in every image; the photographer and the viewer. All that’s required of each is an open mind. All his work is influenced and guided by an underlying love and awareness of Nature. It is a focus on the ‘inner’ and attempts to capture not just a snap-shot in time, but the emotions and feelings associated with that moment also. The majority of his images are taken using semi-pro Canon equipment, but the technical aspect of his image taking is often the least important. The more recent work is textured, layered and post-processed in Photoshop. All textures used are his own creations. Earlier this year Dominic turned his 25 year photographic ‘hobby’ into a professional affair. He has since exhibited in various ‘art fairs’ and most noticeably held his first successful solo exhibition in the Gaslamp Gallery, Gorey
