About the Artist
“I have always been extremely influenced by nature, particularly the Irish landscape which features extensively in my paintings. Observing it from different perspectives my work reflects the ever-changing mood, light and colour of a familiar place.
This new work is a series of visual reflections and recollections produced from sketches photographs and memories of the Irish coastline and many travels abroad. These semi-abstract Coastal Landscapes are a literal and sentimental interpretation of places I have visited. I am inspired by the sea and the natural world and the effects of changing light on the landscape as well as natures physical effect on the coastline.
Heavy applications of paint including natural substances and found objects are brushed in, scraped on , removed, layered, and glazed creating a personal dialogue with the viewer while inviting them to bring their own experiences and emotions to a familiar setting.
Because of its tactile and viscous quality oil paint is the medium of choice although I do enjoy the inclusion of mixed media which helps create different surfaces and textures within the composition.”
Paul’s paintings are held in many private and corporate collections worldwide. His work has been selected for the RHA Annual Show.
